The Treatment Process

Evaluation

Effective treatment of venous disease starts with a thorough evaluation. This is important because no two people have the exact same vein concerns or the exact same venous disease. A thorough medical history and physical examination and duplex ultrasound evaluation will be completed. Once a detailed understanding of your venous disease is obtained, a personalized treatment plan will be developed with you.

Treatment Approach

Our goal is to make your legs feel better and look better as quickly and comfortably as possible. Successful treatment of venous disease typically requires an “inside to outside and large to small” approach. Visible varicose veins, spider veins, venous ulcers, and many of the venous reflux symptoms are generally the result of large refluxing veins located beneath your skin not visible without the use of duplex ultrasound.

Although cosmetic and symptomatic improvement is very important, our main objective is to normalize the venous blood flow out from the legs. This prevents or lessens the more serious consequences and health hazards of venous insufficiency: blood clots, open ulcer leg sores, bleeding from a vein rupture, or a pulmonary embolism (death).

Treating the large non-visible refluxing veins is the first step. Treatment of the more visible results of venous insufficiency (including varicose veins and spider veins) may then be completed. By treating your veins systematically, we are assuring that you receive the safest and most effective treatment for your veins.

If you are insured, we must also work within the guidelines of your particular policy in order for your insurance carrier to cover the cost of treatments. Insurance guidelines usually require a specific time frame for conservative therapy measures to be tried prior to any treatment, and some insurance policies have set forth specific time frames that must elapse between treatments. This can be a complicated process, but our highly trained business staff is ready to assist you in dealing with your insurance carrier so you receive the maximum benefits due you under your specific policy.
