OUR VEIN TREATMENT SERVICES
Microphlebectomy (Tumescent Anesthetic Technique)

spacer

Microphlebectomy is a minimally invasive surgical technique to remove varicose veins. The procedure takes about 30 minutes. The Tumescent Anesthetic Technique is used to anesthetize the skin in and around the varicose veins. Then very small (micro) incisions are made directly over the varicosities. The veins are removed using small, specially designed hooks. The incisions are so small that stitches are generally not necessary, and scarring is typically insignificant.

Tumescent Anesthetic Technique
Microphlebectomy can be accomplished in our office using only tumescent anesthesia. The anesthesia achieved by this technique is excellent and has prolonged duration allowing you to get home long before it wears off. Additionally, the post-operative discomfort if remarkably low.

Post Procedure Recovery
Recovery is quick and there is usually little discomfort. Patients are encouraged to walk about the day of the procedure. Graduated compression stockings will be worn continuously for three days then daily for two weeks. Patients should avoid strenuous physical activity or long term standing for one week.

After Procedure Instructions
Please wear your graduated compression hose continuously for 48 hours and then daily for an additional 14 days. You should put your compression hose on while lying flat in bed or sitting in a chair.
Please walk for 15 minutes at least twice daily.
Please take all your medications as prescribed.
Please take Ibuprofen 600 mg every eight to 12 hours for aching or discomfort in your legs. Remember not to exceed the recommended daily dosage. Do not take Ibuprofen for more than seven days continuously. If you have significant discomfort please call our office at 920-884-8346.
Please avoid strenuous activity such as bike riding, hiking, jogging, weight training or situps for seven days after the procedure.
Avoid hot tubs or hot baths for sevem days after the procedure as these tend to dilate veins.
You should avoid air travel for at least one week after the procedure.
If you notice significant swelling in the treated leg please notify our office immediately.
If you notice a firm tender area along a treated vein this may be trapped blood. Although most trapped blood will dissolve over time, it may leave a stain which may take months or years to resolve. For that reason it is best treated by aspiration. Please contact our office at 920-884-8346. We can easily aspirate/remove this trapped blood during a short office visit.
If Steri Strips were applied to your stab incisions please leave them in place for five day then remove them.
If an Ace Wrap was placed after microphebectomy, please leave in place for 72 hours continuously. You may then remove the Ace Wrap and leave it off.
