Q Will insurance cover treatment of varicose veins?
A Yes, most insurance companies, including medicare, cover the treatment of symptomatic varicose veins.
Q How long does the procedure take?
A It depends on the amount of disease but typically about 1 hour.
Q Is the procedure painful?
A The procedure is performed using needles the size that are used for drawing blood. If you can tolerate a blood draw you will easily tolerate this procedure.
Q What's the recovery time?
A Rapid. Patients are encouraged to walk for 15 minutes right after the procedure and twice daily for at least two weeks. There is no requirement to stay off your feet. You can return to work the next day.
There are only a few restrictions.... No air travel, hiking, biking or hot tubing for two weeks after the procedure. No tanning for three days before or after.
Q Will the varicose veins come back after treatment?
A Not in the veins we treat, but it is possible to develop disease in other veins in the leg. We encourage routine follow-up visits yearly to catch new varicosities early so they can be easily treated.
Q What if my varicose veins are NOT treated?
A Over time varicose veins enlarge and become more painful, forcing many people to alter daily activities. In severe cases, varicose veins can cause skin damage, ulcerations, and blood clots. These complications can be prevented by treating the varicose veins early.
